Hegseth's Focus on Military Readiness and Diversity Removal
Hegseth addresses military readiness while undoing training cuts and planning to remove diversity initiatives within the Pentagon. His Senate confirmation occurred through a tie-breaking vote.
Hegseth stated in a post on X on Sunday that any plans to reduce training were "immediately reversed." This confusion highlights a broader challenge as leaders within the Defense Department attempt to eliminate mentions of diversity from their websites and training materials.
Upon entering the building on Monday morning with Gen. CQ Brown Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Hegseth did not address the issue directly. However, he remarked that "military training will concentrate on the readiness required for our troops in the field to deter our adversaries."
He also noted that his first day would be busy, with additional executive orders anticipated, including the removal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives inside the Pentagon, the reinstatement of troops dismissed due to COVID mandates, and the swift implementation of the Iron Dome for America.
In response to inquiries, Hegseth assured reporters on the steps of the Pentagon that "whatever is necessary at the border will be provided," utilising active duty, National Guard, and state-activated Guard troops.
Hegseth's confirmation by the Senate took place on Friday night, resulting in a tie vote that Vice President JD Vance had to break.
