Canada Faces Tariff Threat and Calls for Respect in Trading Relations
Lutnick warns Canada of potential tariffs while calling for mutual respect in trade relations, especially regarding the dairy sector and issues around fentanyl.
Lutnick stated that Canada could evade the impending 25% tariff threat by taking appropriate actions. However, he warned that in the long term, tariffs might also affect Canadian manufacturing industries, with particular scrutiny on the dairy sector.
During a rapid hearing that covered topics including AI, technology, manufacturing, and agriculture, it became evident that the Trump administration is prioritising American interests. Lutnick highlighted a trading dynamic where the United States felt taken for granted by its trading partners and emphasized that such a situation would no longer be tolerated.
“Respect America,” Lutnick asserted. “If we are your biggest trading partner, show us the respect, shut your border and end fentanyl coming into this country.”
