Residents of Canada are being advised to prepare for significant snowfall as Environment Canada forecasts a snowfall accumulation of 15 to 25 centimetres by Thursday afternoon.
According to forecasters, "peak snowfall rates of two to four centimetres per hour" are expected to begin on Wednesday, continuing until Thursday afternoon. The heaviest snow is anticipated to fall Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
"Snow, at times heavy, will begin Wednesday evening. Total amounts of up to 25 centimetres are possible. This snowfall will impact the Thursday morning commute. Snow may become mixed with ice pellets early Thursday morning as well. Snow will gradually taper off through Thursday afternoon."
Forecasters cautioned that "rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult," predicting a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
Drivers are advised to adjust their driving in relation to changing road conditions. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to create an emergency plan and assemble an emergency kit that includes drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight.
