Ben Simmons is embracing a new chapter in his NBA career. After struggling with injuries during his time with the Brooklyn Nets, the former All-Star has joined the Los Angeles Clippers, hoping to rediscover his best form.
Simmons, who once contemplated retirement, now has the opportunity to rebuild his reputation in the league. During his first press conference as a Clipper on Tuesday, he claimed to have no health limitations and to be ready to go.
"I feel great, ready to go. I just want to play basketball at a high level. And I feel like that's going to happen here," Simmons said.
His time in Brooklyn was filled with setbacks, as injuries prevented him from showcasing the athleticism that made him a star with the Philadelphia 76ers. The move comes after Simmons was waived by the Nets on Saturday. Reports indicate that he gave back nearly $1.1 million as part of the buyout agreement.
Ben Simmons is ready to turn the page on his injury-plagued stint with the Nets. During his introductory press conference, Simmons made it clear that he is focused on competing at the highest level and shutting out the noise from critics.
"I'm a competitor. I just want to compete regardless of all the bulls**t that is said online that doesn't come from me. I want to compete, and I'm here to do that. To play alongside some of these great players is going to be great. I think everyone is just going to push each other to be better and expect greatness," Simmons said.
Simmons' last season with the Nets limited him to just 33 of the team's 52 games this season. In those appearances, he averaged 6.2 points and 6.9 assists per game. Now, with a new team and a fresh start, Simmons believes he can regain his form.
