Trump grants pardon to Silk Road operator Ross Ulbricht
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has signed a full and unconditional pardon for Ross Ulbricht, the individual behind Silk Road, the notorious deep web marketplace known for illegal drug sales.
Ulbricht was convicted in 2015 in New York for involvement in a narcotics and money laundering conspiracy, resulting in a life sentence in prison.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that he had personally informed Ulbricht's mother about the granted pardon.
Silk Road was shut down in 2013 following Ulbricht's arrest, operating as a platform for the purchase of illegal drugs with virtual currency Bitcoin, alongside other illicit items such as hacking tools and stolen identification documents.
