Trump expresses belief in US control of Greenland
President Donald Trump has indicated that he believes the United States will gain control of Greenland, following a renewed interest in acquiring the autonomous Danish territory in recent weeks.
"I think we're going to have it," he stated to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, adding that the island's 56,000 residents "want to be with us".
These remarks come after reports revealed that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen firmly stated that Greenland was not for sale during a heated phone conversation with the president last week.
Trump first suggested the idea of purchasing the territory during his initial term in 2019, emphasising that US control of Greenland is an "absolute necessity" for international security.
