American underdog Madison Keys finally secured a Grand Slam trophy after defeating defending champion Aryna Sabalenka to win the Australian Open women's singles title.
Keys, playing in her second major final and first in over seven years, triumphed over the world number one with a score of 6-3 2-6 7-5.
The 29-year-old is now the fourth-oldest woman to win her first Grand Slam title.
Keys, seeded 19th in Melbourne, clasped her head in disbelief before sharing an emotional hug with her husband and coach Bjorn Fratangelo.
Belarus' Sabalenka, 25, was aiming for a rare third successive victory at the season's opening major.
Feeling defeated, Sabalenka covered her head with a towel before leaving for the locker room.
Upon her return a few minutes later, she received a warm ovation from the 15,000 fans in Rod Laver Arena.
