Cyberattack on UnitedHealth Group Affects 190 Million Individuals
The cyberattack on UnitedHealth Group's tech unit exposed the personal information of 190 million individuals, making it the largest healthcare data breach in the U.S.
On January 24, UnitedHealth Group's tech unit announced that a cyberattack from the previous year compromised the personal information of 190 million people, marking it as the largest healthcare data breach in the U.S.
The attack on Change Healthcare resulted in 100 million people affected, as reported by the U.S. health department in October.
The company stated that the final number of affected individuals will be confirmed and submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' office for civil rights in due course.
The cyberattack, revealed in February, was carried out by hackers self-identifying as the "Blackcat" ransomware group, impacting medical professionals and practices throughout the U.S. healthcare system.
A spokesperson for Change Healthcare mentioned, "Change Healthcare is not aware of any misuse of individuals' information as a result of this incident and has not seen electronic medical record databases appear in the data during the analysis."
