Chancellor Advocates for Positive Economic Approach
The Chancellor has suggested that the country should take inspiration from the US president's patriotic strategy to foster economic growth.
These comments surfaced as reports indicated that firms are reducing jobs at the quickest rate since the global financial crisis, excluding the pandemic, following £40 billion in tax increases outlined in Labour's initial Budget last October.
In an interview with The Times, Ms Reeves explained that Britain is currently lingering in the "slow lane" and must aim to mirror Mr Trump’s approach.
"Yes, I think we do need more positivity," she stated. "I've challenged businesses as well and said no one else is going to speak up for Britain apart from us. It hasn't been a very British thing to say."
She further emphasised, "We are absolutely fantastic as a country, we've got four of the best universities in the world. We've got some of the most amazing entrepreneurs with fantastic ideas."
Ms Reeves highlighted that "in all the sectors that are growing globally - AI, tech, clean energy - Britain has got unbelievable strengths in those sectors." She concluded by insisting, "We shouldn't apologise for it and we shouldn't be all polite about it. We should be shouting from the rooftops."
