Ambulance Trust Apologises for Delay in Death of County Durham Man
The North East Ambulance Service apologised to Andrew Watson's family for the distress over his death following a lengthy wait for paramedics in County Durham.
An ambulance trust has issued an apology for the distress caused to the family of a man who died after suffering breathing difficulties.
Andrew Watson, aged 32, passed away at his home in Langley Moor, County Durham, after waiting for more than an hour for paramedics in 2019.
An internal report by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) concluded that Mr Watson's condition may have been treatable had the ambulance arrived sooner. However, full details of his care were not initially communicated to his family or the coroner.
The NEAS acknowledged the emotional burden on Mr Watson's family, referring to the incident as "complex and tragic".
