Spirit Airlines Enforces Dress Code for Passengers
As of Wednesday, Spirit Airlines, the ultra-low-cost carrier, will implement a new policy that prohibits passengers from flying if they are wearing revealing or offensive attire. According to the revised contract of carriage, a legal agreement between a carrier and a customer, Spirit states that it retains the right to refuse service to passengers who show up "barefoot or are inadequately clothed," which includes wearing items that are see-through or that expose private parts.
The airline has also specified that it will not tolerate garments or body art considered "lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature."
Travel industry analyst Henry H. Harteveldt commented, "Spirit is not saying you have to wear a ball gown or a tuxedo to fly on their planes. By all means, be comfortable, but don't wear anything that would make someone feel unwelcome, that has a hate message or is vulgar or pornographic."
