The actor, known for his roles in The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name, faced backlash in 2021 when text messages surfaced online alleging cannibalistic fetishes. Despite these allegations, Hammer has consistently denied claims of being a cannibal, insisting that the messages were taken out of context.
During the podcast, Hammer clarified that his comment about being "100 percent a cannibal" was meant as a joke. When pressed on whether he ever actually consumed human flesh, he firmly stated, "So no."
The controversy, according to Hammer, forced him into a period of self-examination. He described his experience over the last three years as an opportunity to "learn to love" himself, claiming that the scandal was "the greatest thing that ever happened" to him.
