Davante Adams a potential target for multiple NFL teams this offseason
Davante Adams is anticipated to change teams this offseason, with the Los Angeles Chargers emerging as frontrunners amidst competition from several NFL teams.
A new surprise front-runner has emerged to land New York Jets star wide receiver Davante Adams, who is expected to find a new home this offseason.
During Super Bowl 59 weekend, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Jets are expected to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. If they cut or trade the four-time MVP, the 32-year-old Davante Adams would presumably become available as well.
Cutting ties with Rodgers would signal a rebuild, and the ageing wideout may not be keen on finishing his career with a non-competitive team. Plus, the Jets should find plenty of interested suitors in Adams' services.
According to the Bovada sportsbook, the Los Angeles Chargers are the betting favorites to land Adams. The Bolts are coming off a surprise 11-6 season under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers had the best scoring defense last year and feature a strong offensive nucleus led by Justin Herbert, Ladd McConkey, J.K. Dobbins, Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater. But they could use another playmaking pass-catcher to complement McConkey, and Adams fits the bill there.
In 14 games during the 2024 season (three with the Las Vegas Raiders and 11 with the Jets), Adams caught 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. Adams has hit the 1,000-yard mark in five straight seasons.
The Chargers make sense as a landing spot for Adams, but there could be immense competition for his services. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams all stand out as logical trade destinations for Adams, too.
Adams will presumably want to join a Super Bowl contender at this phase of his career, but just about any top-tier NFL squad would love to add him to their roster if the price is right.
