100 Women Who Care Bancroft Award Funding to Local Charities
On January 29, during their first meeting of 2025, the 100+ Women Who Care group awarded funding to the Bancroft Pregnancy Care Centre. The amount, which reached $4,600 by January 31, is part of a $10,000 fundraising goal.
Joan McHale, the executive director of the BPCC, expressed her gratitude, stating, "I feel very honoured that we were chosen for the funding. The 100+ Women Who Care is an amazing group of women who care deeply about the community."
The meeting took place at the Bancroft Village Playhouse, where members registered at 6:30 p.m., followed by presentations from the selected charities. Attendees contributed $100 each towards the funding of the chosen organization.
The evening featured presentations from three organizations: 1st Bancroft Scouts Canada, Bancroft Pregnancy Care Centre, and the Canadian Peace Museum. Each organization was given approximately 10 minutes to discuss their missions and how they would utilize the funds.
For the 1st Bancroft Scouts Canada, the funding would be used for equipment, adventure funds for youth, and community service projects, as mentioned by presenters Loretta Kasperski and Karina Krolska.
McHale described plans for the BPCC, stating they aim to revitalise programs that were impacted by COVID-19, such as pre- and post-natal parenting groups. They also aspire to start a Lunch and Learn to address food insecurity.
Chris Houston, co-founder of the Canadian Peace Museum, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to present, noting the importance of promoting peaceful solutions in today's challenging environment.
The 100+ Women Who Care group, founded in September 2019, has grown to 148 members and has contributed over $67,000 to local charities over the years.
Following the meeting, the Bancroft Pregnancy Care Centre was chosen as the recipient of the night’s funding, with McHale sharing her appreciation for the support from the membership.
As of January 30, fundraising efforts continued, and member engagement was high, with new members also joining the cause.
