Arrest Made in Toronto Assault Case Following Social Media Meeting
Toronto Police have announced that an arrest was made in an assault investigation, which began after officers responded to a call on December 14 around 4 a.m. in the King St. W.-Dufferin St. area, regarding a meetup that went wrong.
According to police, the suspect and victim had formed a friendship through social media before deciding to meet in person. However, this friendship quickly turned sour as the two engaged in an argument. The situation escalated, leading to the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment following the altercation.
On January 29, officers arrested Brian Gonsalves, a 27-year-old resident of Markham, who has since been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
