Steeves Ties Career Goals Record with Marlies as He Shines in AHL
25-year-old forward Steeves ties career goals record with Marlies and leads AHL in scoring while pursuing further records amidst limited opportunities in NHL.
The 25-year-old forward, currently playing for the Marlies, goes into their home game on Friday night — their first at the Coca-Cola Coliseum since January 8 — against the Laval Rocket with 94 career goals, tying him with Ryan Hamilton.
Earlier this season, Steeves passed Kris Newbury for the most points in Marlies history, now holding a total of 194 points.
Steeves leads the American Hockey League (AHL) with 25 goals in 34 games and is ranked fourth in overall scoring with 40 points.
Despite his prolific offensive performance in the minors, Steeves hasn’t had many opportunities to showcase his skills with the Maple Leafs over four seasons, having played in just 11 games, including four this season (2024-25).
As he continues to break Marlies records, with 100 career assists, he is just 17 shy of surpassing the mark of 116 held by Mike Zigomanis. Steeves remains focused and has managed to set aside frustrations over not receiving a longer look in the National Hockey League (NHL).
