The U.S. Postal Service announced the suspension of all incoming packages from China and Hong Kong Posts on Tuesday evening. This decision is likely a fallout from President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs on all Chinese imports, which are set to go into effect. As a result, this move will likely cause significant disruptions for major e-commerce platforms such as Shein, Temu, and Amazon Haul.
The suspension by the USPS may lead to serious operational setbacks for popular low-cost e-commerce platforms like Temu, Shein, and Amazon Haul. These services became well-known for offering products at "crazy low prices" and relied heavily on economical shipping options from China, alongside the duties exemptions provided under the "de minimis" rule.
The USPS defines "flats" or large envelopes as packages with dimensions of up to 15 inches long, 3/4 inch thick, and a maximum weight of 16 ounces. While these "flats" are exempted from the current suspension, it remains uncertain whether e-commerce companies can utilize these packages for shipping merchandise.
