Trump proposes US takeover of Gaza for peace and development
In a stunning proposal presented on Tuesday, President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. will "take over" the Gaza Strip, "level the site," and rebuild it after suggesting that Palestinians should leave the area. During a news conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump mentioned that the people could reside in "a beautiful area with homes and safety, and they can live out their lives in peace and harmony" in different regions or countries.
"The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too," he declared. "We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings," he added.
Trump emphasized the creation of an economic development plan that could provide unlimited job opportunities and housing for local residents. He expressed a hope that neighboring wealthy countries would fund the transition while offering Palestinians a better chance at life away from conflict.
"But the people will be able to live in comfort and peace, and will get sure -- we'll make sure something really spectacular is done," he stated. He also clarified that relocating Palestinians from Gaza will not hinder their ability to return, but suggested they might prefer the new living arrangements.
When questioned about sending U.S. troops to Gaza, Trump indicated he was open to the idea, saying, "If it's necessary, we'll do that." He expressed confidence that his approach would stabilize not only Gaza but potentially the entire Middle East.
Netanyahu praised Trump's innovative strategies, asserting they could help meet their objectives for peace in the region. The proposal has raised questions about its implications for the long-standing two-state policy traditionally endorsed by the United States.
Trump clarified that his vision extends beyond just Israel. "This is for everybody in the Middle East. Arabs, Muslims, this is for everybody," he stated, emphasizing a need for change in Gaza due to its ongoing challenges.
