Janelle Brown Defends Against Kody Brown's Financial Accusations
Janelle Brown refutes Kody Brown's claims that she mismanaged the family's finances, insisting he was the one who spent funds irresponsibly and maintained a lack of transparency.
Janelle Brown has no intention of taking the blame for the financial troubles of the Brown family. During season 19 of Sister Wives, Kody Brown attempts to shift responsibility onto Janelle, but she speaks out. In a tense moment from the episode aired on January 26, Janelle accused Kody of spending a significant amount of family money without regard for their financial situation.
Kody insists that Janelle handled the family finances, but she clarifies that her role was merely to record transactions. She states she is not more aware of the financial situations than her former family members.
Kody has portrayed Janelle as the "family accountant," suggesting she is responsible for their financial management. Janelle counters this narrative by asserting that Kody is the one who spent the family's funds without transparency regarding their distribution or beneficiaries.
The relationship between Kody and Janelle soured years ago. Janelle, along with her former sister wives Christine and Meri Brown, left Kody in a span of 18 months. Currently, Kody is in a monogamous relationship with Robyn Brown, but past financial issues continue to affect the former plural family.
Interestingly, Meri Brown and Janelle, despite their past disagreements, seem to align on their concerns about the family's finances. Meri questioned the family's financial practices during the January 19 episode, revealing that although she contributed significantly to the family account during her marriage, her own bills were never covered by it.
Meri expressed confusion over how family funds were utilized. She pointed out that family earnings did not cover expenses like Leon Brown's college tuition or vehicle payments. Additionally, she had to manage her own mortgage and rent without assistance from the family account.
Longtime viewers of Sister Wives may recall that Meri was denied financial support from Kody and her sister wives to open her business, Lizzie's Heritage Inn, despite having previously contributed to the shared family resources. She subsequently financed the project herself and is now renovating the business.
