Sally Albright and Harry Burns Reunite in New Hellmann's Super Bowl Ad
In a nostalgic reunion, Sally Albright and Harry Burns, played by Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, return to New York's Katz' Delicatessen for a new Super Bowl commercial promoting Hellmann's mayonnaise. This ad is a follow-up to the iconic 1989 film "When Harry Met Sally," which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary and was added to the National Film Registry.
The ad, which is the fifth for Hellmann's during the Super Bowl, aims to emphasize the brand's mission of reducing food waste and enhancing meal experiences. Jessica Grigoriou, senior vice president of marketing for condiments at Unilever, stated that the goal is to surprise viewers and incorporate humor and nostalgia, themes that resonate well with the Super Bowl audience.
The new 30-second commercial will air in the second quarter of the Super Bowl on February 9, during Fox's broadcast. In this ad, fans can again expect witty references to the original film, including Sydney Sweeney's cameo, which revives the classic line, "I'll have what she's having."
Ryan noted the challenge of condensing storytelling into a short commercial format, stating, "There is a lot that 30 seconds or 45 seconds or 60 seconds have to communicate." Viewers can also order the same turkey and pastrami sandwiches featured in the ad, complete with special preparation instructions to meet Sally's iconic standards.
The ad's humor lies in the evolution of societal norms since the original film. Crystal reflected that while the movie's depiction of an orgasm was once considered provocative, societal views have transformed drastically over the years.
