Elon Musk Labels USAID a Criminal Organization
Tech billionaire Elon Musk publicly declared that he considers the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) a "criminal organization" that should "die." This statement was made on the social media platform X.
Musk's comments followed reports indicating that senior officials at USAID had attempted to prevent personnel from Musk's new "Department of Government Efficiency" from accessing secure systems, according to NBC News.
The agency has become a target of the Trump administration's efforts to restructure the federal government. Recently, a three-page letter revealed that President Trump is contemplating merging USAID into a division of the State Department.
In recent days, several federal websites, including USAID's, have become inactive. USAID plays a crucial role in providing humanitarian assistance to countries affected by conflicts and supports developing nations in numerous ways.
The agency boasts a budget exceeding $50 billion and was established in 1961. Following his inauguration, President Trump signed an executive order that implemented a temporary freeze on federal funding, which a judge later blocked.
