City View Apartments Fire Alarm Inspection Nears Deadline
The fire alarm system inspection at City View Apartments is nearing its deadline. Inspectors, with limited access, hope to complete tests before Friday to ensure tenant safety.
The fire alarm system inspection of City View Apartments is reaching the eleventh hour. A Friday deadline to test the alarms that alert tenants and firefighters must pass to avoid evacuation of residents for their safety.
City Councilmember Danny Begley said inspectors had checked all devices from the eleventh floor down to the fifth floor. Management had some of the keys to units, but also had to drill out locks that did not work.
"The progress has been slow," Begley said. "But I'm hoping the next couple days that the fire inspections are done and we can see what reports show."
After the weekend roadblock, Begley said inspectors now have access to the apartments. Replacements are expected to be installed Tuesday. Wednesday has been described as a "buffer day" for the inspectors hired by Tzadik management. A final test by the city is expected Thursday.
Another tenant has expressed doubt that other complaints will be fixed, like exposed walls and apartment doors without locks. "They just worried about the fire system," one woman said about management. "They getting it done. But the apartments, the doors, they still got doors up the hinges and is bad."
