Chiefs Favorited for Super Bowl LIX Against Eagles
The Kansas City Chiefs are favored to win Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles, opening as 1.5-point favorites, aiming for their third consecutive title.
The Kansas City Chiefs, who were betting underdogs in the last two Super Bowls, have opened as favorites for Super Bowl LIX.
On Sunday, the Chiefs were established as a 1.5-point favorite over the Philadelphia Eagles at ESPN BET and various sportsbooks across the nation. The over/under total for the game opened at 49.5 at ESPN BET.
The Chiefs previously defeated the San Francisco 49ers in last year's Super Bowl as underdogs, and they also overcame the Eagles in their Super Bowl meeting in 2023. A rematch with the Eagles could allow the Chiefs to aim for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl win.
The Eagles kicked off the season with 11-1 odds to win the Super Bowl at ESPN BET. They successfully advanced past the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, marking their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Philadelphia has performed well as underdogs, winning all three of their games in that role this season.
Joey Feazel from Caesars Sportsbook indicated a balanced betting interest between the Chiefs and Eagles, although more bets might favor Kansas City due to their chance to secure a three-peat.
Historically, favored teams have won 36 out of 58 Super Bowls, while underdogs have triumphed in 10 of the last 17 contests. Against the spread, underdogs hold a slightly losing record at 29-27-2 in Super Bowl history.
"We usually see a surge of bets within the first few hours," stated Johnny Avello, DraftKings' sportsbook director. "Sometimes the line changes, sometimes it stays the same."
Following the opening, the betting line moved to a consensus of Chiefs -2 less than an hour later.
Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9 in New Orleans.
