US and Russian Figure Skaters Involved in Washington DC Plane Crash
US and Russian figure skaters were reportedly among the passengers on an aeroplane that collided with a helicopter above Washington DC on Wednesday evening.
The sport's governing body, US Figure Skating, confirmed that "several" athletes, coaches, and family members were on the flight.
Furthermore, the Kremlin acknowledged that Russian citizens were also on board, following local media reports indicating that ice skating coaches and former world champions Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were among the passengers.
While US officials have not disclosed specific casualty figures, a law enforcement source revealed to the BBC's US partner CBS News that at least 19 bodies had been recovered from the icy Potomac River.
