Sam Hunt Arrested in Tennessee After Traffic Violation
Grammy-nominated country singer Sam Hunt was arrested in Tennessee last week following a traffic stop, authorities reported. The singer allegedly violated terms related to a previous DUI conviction, although his team has since confirmed that the charges have been dropped.
According to TMZ, Hunt was apprehended in Henderson County on 20 January for allegedly speeding and breaching an interlock device requirement. He was released the same day after posting a £1,125 bond.
The incident occurred when police stopped Hunt's vehicle for excessive speed in Henderson County, situated halfway between Memphis and Nashville, where the singer lives with his wife and two children.
The violation of the interlock device pertains to Hunt's 2019 DUI arrest in Nashville. At that time, authorities found him driving in the wrong direction on Ellington Parkway with a blood alcohol level of .173, which is more than twice the legal limit. In a previous interview, Hunt acknowledged his responsibility, stating, "It's not that I don't drink at all, but I put myself in a position by being out, seeing friends at a show, leaving my phone in an Uber."
After that incident, Hunt pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI in Davidson County Circuit Court. He received a suspended sentence of 11 months and 29 days and served 48 hours at DUI Education Centers. His driving licence was suspended for a year, with reinstatement dependent on the installation of an interlock device in his vehicle. He also completed an alcohol safety course.
Fortunately, it appears that his latest legal troubles have been resolved. A representative confirmed to TMZ, "Sam's lawyer cleared the paperwork in court this week and there will be no charges. A speeding ticket was issued and will be paid."
The chart-topping artist, who has received five Grammy nominations in his career and whose hit "Body Like a Back Road" has achieved nearly one billion streams on Spotify, has maintained a relatively low profile in recent years. His recent releases include an EP and occasional singles, with his latest track, "Liberty," debuting last autumn.
Hunt's personal life has experienced significant changes as well. He married Hannah Lee Fowler in 2017, and after she filed for divorce in 2022, she later withdrew the petition. The couple has since reconciled and is now expecting their third child in May.
