Plane and helicopter collision near Washington DC results in no survivors
A passenger plane collided in mid-air with a helicopter near Washington DC as it approached Ronald Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night. US officials report that 67 people were aboard the plane and no survivors are expected.
In a press conference from the White House, President Donald Trump expressed that "our hearts are shattered" and that the US is "in mourning". He subsequently criticised diversity policies at the federal aviation agency.
When questioned by a reporter if he was suggesting that the crash was linked to diversity hiring practices, Trump replied, "it could have been". When pressed on how he arrived at this conclusion, he stated, "because I have common sense, and unfortunately a lot of people don’t".
