DEI Policies Discontinued at US Defence Department
DEFENSE SECRETARY PETE HEGSETH recently stated that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are failing at the Defence Department, declaring that the approach is now "dead."
He emphasized that the administration will pursue a merit-based and colourblind policy, focusing on equity in treatment and upholding high standards, accountability, and operational readiness in military efforts.
Hegseth criticized the historical notion that "our diversity is our strength," arguing instead that unity and shared purpose are the true strengths of the Pentagon.
According to him, the military branches are rapidly responding to this shift, with those unwilling to adapt being encouraged to seek opportunities elsewhere. He stated that DEI will not be a focus within the Defence Department moving forward.
