Vancouver Mayor Announces Halt on Supportive Housing Approvals
Vancouver's Mayor announced the end of new supportive housing approvals and plans to re-open the Downtown Eastside Area Plan, citing a lack of consultation with the non-profit sector.
Last week, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim announced an end to approvals of net new supportive housing and a commitment to re-open the Downtown Eastside Area Plan. This announcement came with no consultation.
No consultation was held with the non-profit housing sector that delivers more than 30,000 non-profit homes in Vancouver, including 5,400 homes with supports for people with disabilities, seniors, veterans, youth, those experiencing gender-based violence, people with mental illness and those affected by substance use.
