Queensland Police Charge 52 in Major Operation Against Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs
Queensland police have charged 52 individuals on various drug and weapon offences as part of Operation Whiskey Legion targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs and their associates.
Detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command Organised Crime Gangs Group (OCGG) have charged 52 people on 149 counts in South East Queensland targeting drug and weapon offences by outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) members and their associates.
The arrests were made as part of Operation Whiskey Legion, which involved the execution of 43 search warrants on properties across Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Moreton, Gold Coast and Logan from January 20 - 24, assisted by specialist and local police.
During the operation, police located eight firearms, quantities of dangerous drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, pharmaceutical drugs, and approximately AUD 40,000 in cash.
In a search of a property in Goodna, detectives found three firearms and a mobile booby trap device capable of firing a shotgun shell if activated. A 35-year-old man was charged with nine drug and firearm offences and appeared in Richlands Magistrates Court.
The OCGG Highway Patrol Unit conducted 48 roadside drug and alcohol tests, identifying 13 drug drivers, three disqualified drivers, leading to several traffic offence notices issued.
Detective Acting Superintendent Tim Leadbetter from the Organised Crime Gangs Group stated that police will continue to dismantle and disrupt illegal and violent behaviours associated with OMCGs, including activities on roads.
"We have a zero-tolerance approach against the violence and criminality of OMCGs and their disregard for public safety and the safety of other road users," Detective Acting Superintendent Leadbetter said.
"We will continue taking a proactive, intelligence-led policing approach and conduct operations wherever OMCGs are in the state to make our communities safer."
