Australian Influencer Granted Bail After Allegedly Drugging Child
An Australian influencer has been granted bail after allegedly drugging her one-year-old daughter. She faces multiple serious charges and must adhere to strict bail conditions.
An Australian social media influencer, aged 34, has been granted bail after being arrested for allegedly drugging her one-year-old child, leading to emergency surgery.
The woman, from the Sunshine Coast, was arrested on January 16 following a lengthy investigation by Queensland Police. The allegations state that she administered medications to her daughter against the advice of medical professionals.
Facing multiple charges, including five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, the woman cannot be named for legal reasons. Police will argue that between August 6 and October 16, 2024, she unlawfully gave her child five different "unauthorised" prescription and pharmacy medications.
During a court appearance in Brisbane, the woman was granted bail with strict conditions imposed by Magistrate Stephen Courtney. She is prohibited from being within 100 metres of the child she is accused of drugging, and any contact must occur through video audio link under supervision.
Magistrate Courtney emphasised the seriousness of the situation, stating that police would closely monitor her compliance with bail conditions and would not hesitate to return her to custody if breached. The woman confirmed her understanding of these conditions during the hearing.
Additionally, she is forbidden from contacting any witnesses, except for the child's father via legal representation. It was revealed in court that the woman was allegedly recorded in a hospital administering a drug named Carbamazepine to her child while hiding her actions with a blanket. This medication had previously been prescribed but was stopped due to adverse effects, including seizures.
Police will claim that she went to great lengths to obtain medications and continued to harm her child, defying medical advice. It's also alleged that she filmed her child for financial gain and to attract online followers.
Her bail application was made during a court hearing on Tuesday.
