The Launceston Tennis Centre has officially opened, representing a significant investment in tennis in northern Tasmania. With state-of-the-art facilities, it will serve as a hub for local players and major events.

Launceston's new $3.1 million state-of-the-art tennis centre is officially open and ready to serve up a powerful impact on the local sports scene.

Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan said it was fantastic to watch these upgrades transform into the northern regional hub for tennis in Tasmania.

"The facility's opening marks a major milestone for tennis enthusiasts and athletes of all ages, and excitingly, is now ready to host the Launceston International when it returns next month," Minister Duigan said.

"The Tasmanian Government is proud to have contributed $2 million towards this important redevelopment which will have wide reaching impacts for those involved in tennis across northern Tasmania."

Minister Duigan said the new facility is ace and will become the heart of tennis in the North.

"This newly upgraded Launceston Tennis, Community and Events centre will be a facility for local tennis players and clubs, a hub for major tennis events as well as being a multipurpose sport and community space," Minister Duigan said.

"Whether you're looking to hone your skills, see world-class tennis on our doorstep, or simply have fun with family and friends, the Launceston Tennis Centre offers something for everyone," Minister Duigan said.

"I hope this centre will bring the community together. It's more than a place to play tennis - it's a hub for fostering sportsmanship, keeping our state fit, and fun."

"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, our Government is committed to supporting sport in our community. We want to see more people participating and connecting through sports and active recreation, which is exactly what this facility will do."

Thank you also to Fairbrother for delivering this project.

Lines attributable to City of Launceston Mayor, Matthew Garwood:

"We are absolutely stoked at the City of Launceston to see the upgraded Northern Regional Tennis Centre ready to host the returning Launceston International Tournament in 2025," Mayor Garwood said.

"This project has been a really awesome collaboration between a diverse and passionate team of people from the City of Launceston, State Government, Federal Government and Tennis Australia and represents a really significant investment in the future of tennis in Launceston."

"I want to thank all our project partners for sharing the vision and working collaboratively to make this project a reality, and I can't wait to see the redeveloped facility in action."

Lines attributable to Tennis Tasmania General Manager, Darren Sturgess:

"The completion of the Launceston Tennis, Community & Events Centre is a testament to the resilience, collaboration, and determination of the Launceston and Northern Tasmanian tennis community," Mr Sturgess said.

"The Centre will serve as a vibrant year-round hub for tennis and community activities across the region and the state, welcoming people of all ages, genders, and abilities. It has already played a pivotal role in securing one of two Junior International events next week and the much-anticipated return of the Launceston International. Its impact on participation, well-being, and the community will be transformative for Northern Tasmania and beyond.

"This world-class facility embodies the collective efforts of many contributors, delivering lasting benefits to the Tasmanian community. On behalf of Tennis Tasmania, I would like to sincerely thank our funding partners - the Tasmanian Government, Federal Government, City of Launceston, and Tennis Australia - along with Preston Lane Architects and Fairbrother, whose dedication and expertise made this project a reality.

"An official opening will take place just before the Launceston International next month, providing an opportunity to thank the community and come together to celebrate tennis."
