Police Investigation Compromised Over Explosive-Laden Caravan
NSW Police Commissioner asserts investigation into explosive-laden caravan compromised due to media leaks, as Jewish leaders express need for earlier security alerts.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has stated that the ongoing investigation regarding an explosive-laden caravan has been compromised due to leaks to the media. Meanwhile, Jewish leaders expressed concerns, asserting that they should have been alerted earlier regarding their security risks.
The caravan was located in Dural, situated in Sydney's north-west, on January 19. Authorities revealed it contained sufficient explosives to create a blast wave of up to 40 metres, along with information pertaining to potential Jewish targets.
Currently, the registered owner of the caravan remains in custody facing unrelated charges. ASIO, NSW Police, and their federal counterparts are actively investigating the stockpiled explosives, which officials claim are typically utilised in the mining industry.
Commissioner Webb addressed the media on Thursday morning, commenting, "The fact that this information is now in the public domain has compromised our investigation, and it's been detrimental to some of the strategies we may have used."
