Melbourne gangland figure Sam Abdulrahim killed in suspected hit
Sam "The Punisher" Abdulrahim, a known figure in Melbourne's gangland, has been killed in a suspected hit. An associate revealed Abdulrahim had resigned to his fate, saying, "I told him to get out of the country... but he said to me, what can I do? When my time is up, my time is up."
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, in broad daylight, when a hired hitman fatally shot Abdulrahim several times in the head. This assassination follows a previous attempt on his life in May of last year, when he survived a hail of bullets outside his Thomastown home.
Police responded quickly, cordoning off the area at Preston's Quest serviced apartments, indicating the seriousness of the situation. The $2 million bounty on Abdulrahim's head and his extensive list of enemies made his death a matter of "when" rather than "if."
Among his notable enemies were murdered underworld figures Nabil Maghnie and Gavin "The Capable" Preston. The suspected mastermind behind the hit, Kazem Hamad, has a long-standing animosity with Abdulrahim, stemming from accusations regarding Hamad's friend's murder back in 2016.
Abdulrahim's tumultuous past included expulsion from the Mongols bikie club after causing too much trouble. As news of his death spread, mourners gathered at a mosque in Epping to pay their respects. A funeral notice read, "Taken too soon, Sam was a man full of life, he was loved by all and his smile would always light up the room. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten."
