Narembeen among Australia's top towns for centenarians

AI-Generated Summary

Narembeen ranks third in Australia for centenarians according to a study by Simply Nootropics, highlighting the benefits of rural lifestyles and outdoor activities.

Residents in the Wheatbelt town of Narembeen are the third-most likely in Australia to live to 100, according to research.

The study by supplement brand Simply Nootropics analysed Australian Bureau of Statistics data on regional lifestyle statistics, which was crosschecked with census data sorted by postcode and age to determine the nation's top 10 "centenarian hotspots".

"With the data scrutinised and mapped throughout all of Australia, the results showcase a landslide leaning toward rural, outdoorsy areas, with not one city ranking," the report said.

Queenscliffe in southern Victoria topped the rankings, with 6.49 per cent of the town's population older than 85.

South Australia's Victor Harbour was second at 5.44 per cent, while 5.28 per cent of the population of Narembeen -- 280km east of Perth -- had lived past 85.

Orroroo Carrieton in SA's Mid North region placed fourth with 4.61 per cent, while Claremont in Perth's western suburbs ranked fifth (4.66 per cent).

"While WA has a lower likelihood of producing centenarians based on age data, it ranks first -- above any other Australian State or Territory -- for lifestyle factors that contribute to longevity," the report said.

"With its strong performance in areas like BMI, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and diet, WA is the healthiest State in 2025 and could be on its way to becoming Australia's No.1 centenarian hotspot."

The rest of the top 10 was dominated by Victoria and New South Wales.

Neuroscientist and Simply Nootropics researcher Dr Brian Ramos said the top-ranking towns all shared "qualities in common".

These were "peaceful surroundings, a slower pace of life and ample space for outdoor activities".

"It's important for those living in major metropolitan areas to schedule downtime regularly, form community, and ensure time is spent in green areas designed to help the brain unwind from the daily stresses life can bring," Dr Ramos said.
