Unreliable coal-fired generators drive up energy prices in Australia
Unreliable coal-fired power generators and a lack of adequate transmission infrastructure are driving energy prices up according to the Australian Energy Market Operator's Quarterly Energy Dynamics Report released today.
The data indicates that states with higher renewable penetration, such as South Australia and Victoria, experienced lower energy prices in the last quarter compared to coal-reliant New South Wales and Queensland.
As coal declines, the Federal Government must ensure that regional communities hosting renewable energy infrastructure receive the right information, support, and trust.
RE-Alliance National Director Andrew Bray stated that Local Energy Hubs will help bridge the information and capacity gaps in regional communities that are being asked to host renewable energy infrastructure, including wind and solar farms, batteries, and new transmission lines.
