Mark Wahlberg Apologises to Castmates After Flight Risk Filming
Mark Wahlberg has issued an apology to his castmates following the filming of 'Flight Risk', stating that he was overly consumed with his character.
The 53-year-old actor portrays a hit man masquerading as a pilot, targeting US marshal Madelyn (Michelle Dockery) and fugitive Winston (Topher Grace). Wahlberg admitted that he was so "locked in" on his villainous role that he was not particularly "engaging" when the cameras were not rolling.
He explained to People magazine, "I was locked into the part the whole time. So if we weren't shooting, I was like either off in the corner by myself or I just would kind of go back to my little dressing room and just sit there."
Wahlberg mentioned that he was the kind of actor who continuously poked and prodded at his castmates while filming, saying, "I apologised at the end because I wasn't very engaging off camera or outside of shooting, but I was just in [that] head space."
With only 22 days of filming, he quickly immersed himself into the character's mindset.
For 'Flight Risk', directed by Mel Gibson, Mark sought inspiration from some of his acting icons. He expressed his admiration for films like 'The Shining', 'In The Line of Fire', and 'Cape Fear'. He remarked, "Those are the kind of characters that I always loved and gravitated towards, and I hadn't done it in such a long time."
To portray his character, Wahlberg partially shaved his head, which drew a shocked reaction from his wife, Rhea Durham. He recounted, "She dove under the covers, bro. She was like, 'Aaah, get out of here,' but then she got used to it."
Ultimately, he was pleased with the decision to shave his head, as it saved time in the makeup chair. "I don't want to sit there and wait two hours in the chair putting on a bald cap and then gluing pieces of hair on," he stated.
