The Australian Greens have facilitated the passage of a childcare reforms bill in the Senate, highlighting their influence on early childhood education policies ahead of the election.
The Australian Greens have successfully created a pathway for the Government's childcare reforms bill to be voted on in the Senate, marking a significant step before the upcoming election.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May, the Greens' spokesperson for early childhood education, stated:
"Today the Greens secured a major win for families and children across the country.
"In a sign that Greens pressure works, Labor has been forced to back its own bill to remove the childcare subsidy activity test for three days per week.
"This reform is thanks to Greens, early childhood education advocates, and families voicing the need to eliminate the activity test, which has pressured Labor to act.
"This bill represents just the first step in addressing our broken childcare system, which is crucial to protect from a potential Coalition government.
"The Greens will continue to advocate for universal, free early childhood education and care. With the Greens holding the balance of power, we will strive to keep Dutton out of government and push Labor to follow through."
