Cooperation with Yemen to Combat Houthi Threats
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak discussed cooperation to counter Houthi attacks and ensure maritime security in the Red Sea region.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak to discuss vital cooperation to cease Houthi attacks in the region and dismantle their capabilities.
During their conversation, they emphasized the urgent need to eradicate the Houthi threat to maritime security in the Red Sea and surrounding waterways. Both leaders expressed shared concerns regarding the unlawful detention of diplomatic, UN, and NGO personnel, including both current and former Yemeni staff associated with the U.S. Mission to Yemen, as well as recent detentions of additional UN staff.
The Secretary highlighted the President's Executive Order re-designating the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, calling it a significant measure in efforts to curb the group's influence.
Rubio stated his commitment to continuing support for the Republic of Yemen Government as they confront the ongoing challenges posed by the Houthis.
