Hagan Scotten's resignation highlighted a crisis in the U.S. legal system after several officials quit following a directive to drop corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
In a resignation letter made public on Friday, Hagan Scotten, assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York, criticized acting deputy attorney general Emil Bove, stating, "I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion." Scotten became the seventh legal official to resign within 24 hours after Bove's directive to drop corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
