Bolsonaro Indicted for Attempting to Undermine Brazil's 2022 Elections
Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil's former president, was charged Tuesday with overseeing a vast scheme intended to undermine the integrity of the 2022 elections and to overturn the results, even after his supporters could not find any evidence of fraud.
Brazil's attorney general, Paulo Gonet Branco, has indicted Mr. Bolsonaro along with 33 other individuals for a series of crimes that threaten the democratic framework of Brazil. These charges largely align with recommendations made by Brazil's federal police back in November.
The case will now be presented to Brazil's Supreme Court, which will evaluate the charges and determine if Mr. Bolsonaro should be arrested and brought to trial.
An attorney representing Mr. Bolsonaro has not provided any immediate comments regarding the indictments.
