Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles Trade Jabs Over Racing Challenge
Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles continue their public rivalry over racing. Lyles challenges Hill to stop talking and race him as he wins another track meet. Hill responds with a challenge to race.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill responded to Noah Lyles' latest message in their ongoing rivalry. On February 2, American track and field sprinter Lyles won his fourth straight 60-meter final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Following the victory, Lyles trolled Hill with a message that read, "Tyreek could never," which he displayed prominently over his face.
Hill quickly caught wind of Lyles' words and reposted SportsCenter's coverage of the incident, continuing their back-and-forth banter about who would win in a race. Hill, known by the nickname "the Cheetah," believes he can beat the decorated sprinter, although some critics suggest he is merely seeking attention.
In a post-race interview with NBC Sports, Lyles challenged Hill, saying, "When you're ready to actually put some words down and you're actually ready to race, see me. I'm right here. I ain't going nowhere. But all I know is, your football season's over. You ain't got no excuse now."
This exchange is not the first of its kind; Lyles previously accused Hill of "chasing clout" in an August interview on the "Nightcap Show." He claimed that Hill only wants to race when someone fast appears on the scene and referenced that Hill did not show up to race DK Metcalf.
Lyles stated he would race Hill if something was officially set up, asking Hill to move beyond talking online and to contact his agent to arrange a meeting.
Hill responded on X with a challenge, saying, "Sign the contract and lock in that 50 yard race ...." According to NBC Sports reporter Nick Zaccardi, Hill recently ran the 60m in 6.70 seconds at the 2023 USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships, marking his first track meet in nine years.
Zaccardi further noted Lyles' personal best for the 60m is 6.43 seconds, although he clocked in at 6.52 seconds on February 2. Additionally, Lyles holds the edge in the 100m sprint, with Hill's wind-legal personal best being 10.19 seconds, a time that places him outside the ten fastest NFL players in history for that event, whereas Lyles' best stands at 9.79 seconds.
