Parke Heritage Wins Second Straight Sectional Championship

Parke Heritage secured its second consecutive high school girls basketball sectional championship by defeating Southmont 60-44. Emma Simpson was the standout player with 26 points.
Emma Simpson poured in 26 points to lead Parke Heritage to its second straight high school girls basketball sectional championship, as the Wolves beat Southmont 60-44 in the Class 2A Greencastle title game Saturday night.
Coach Mark Harper's Wolves (22-4 and repeat Wabash River Conference champs) now play Monrovia (19-7) in next Saturday's Greencastle Regional, starting at 1 p.m.
Parke Heritage led at Saturday's quarter breaks 22-16, 32-26 and 50-40.
Raegan Ramsay added 14 points for the Wolves.
Gomez and Barry led Southmont with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
In other girls sectionals Saturday:
- North Central 44, White River Valley 42 -- At the Class A Clay City Sectional, North Central's Shelby Seay scored 33 points, powering the Thunderbirds to a dramatic overtime victory in the title game.
- North Central (now 23-3) plays Northeast Dubois at 4 p.m. next Saturday in Bedford North Lawrence Regional.
- In their win over WRV, Coach Joey Davidson's Thunderbirds led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 16-15 at halftime. By the close of the third period, the Wolverines had tied it at 30-30.
- Seay scored 20 of her points in Saturday's second half. She hit two 3-pointers and all four of her free throws in the homestretch. The Thunderbirds and WRV both scored 12 fourth-quarter points, and regulation ended 40-40.
- In overtime, North Central controlled the ball, winding down the clock to get the deciding two points in the last 5 seconds. After a timeout, WRV's final long shot didn't go in, and the Thunderbirds won 42-40.
- Izzy Avila topped WRV with 17 points, while Reese Graves added 15.
- White River Valley finished 18-5.
- Lafayette Central Catholic 53, Fountain Central 30 -- At the Class A Fountain Central Sectional in Veedersburg, LCC claimed the title and raised its record to 22-4.
- Central Catholic had advanced to the final after beating Riverton Parke 72-21 on Friday.
- Barrett led LCC with 19 points, while Bordenet added 15. Good led Fountain Central with seven.
