PA Governor Celebrates Eagles Super Bowl Win While Facing Criticism

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro faced backlash while celebrating the Eagles' Super Bowl victory, claiming they're America's Team and facing criticism over lengthy speeches and lawsuits against the Trump administration.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro brought up the Dallas Cowboys while celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles during their victory parade following Sunday's Super Bowl win.
In his speech, Shapiro suggested that the Eagles are "America's Team," stating, "People love to hate on the Eagles. People love to hate on Philly. I think we became America's Team in all of this. I hope Dallas hears this."
After his comments, Shapiro reposted a Sports Illustrated article covering his remarks on X, drawing quick mockery from critics. One user wrote, "Crazy thinking about a team that hasn't won a Super Bowl in 30 years during the parade."
Others argued that the Eagles are not even Pennsylvania's team, as the Pittsburgh Steelers have a longer history of success, boasting six Super Bowl wins compared to the Eagles' two. Comments included, "They're not even Pennsylvania's team," and questions about what Shapiro would say if the Steelers won the next year.
Critics also pointed out the length of the speeches given by Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, with some attendees booing Parker and chanting "wrap it up!" One comment remarked that they should have simply said "Go Birds" and exited the stage quickly.
In addition to the Super Bowl celebration, Shapiro is facing scrutiny from conservatives after suing the Trump administration over frozen federal funds. He stated these funds were crucial for Pennsylvania projects aimed at protecting public health and creating jobs.
Shapiro emphasized, "The federal government has entered into a contract with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania... With this funding freeze, the Trump administration is breaking that contract, and it's my job as governor to protect Pennsylvania's interests."
The Trump administration responded by dismissing Shapiro's lawsuit, describing it as an attempt to undermine the will of the American people and labeling it as an extension of "the left's resistance."
