Myles Garrett Requests Trade from Cleveland Browns
Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, has officially requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. In a statement released on Monday, Garrett explained that his desire to win a Super Bowl motivated his decision.
"As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl -- and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today," he stated.
He continued, "While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."
The Browns had a challenging season, finishing with a record of 3-14, placing them last in the AFC North. Garrett's trade request follows a statement from general manager Andrew Berry at the Senior Bowl, where he indicated that the team would not be trading Garrett this offseason.
At 29 years old, Garrett has two years left on the five-year, $125 million extension he signed in 2020. During the current season, he recorded 14 sacks for the second consecutive year and has earned a spot as a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award once again.
