Woman arrested in connection to suspicious death of NFL reporter orphaning his daughter
A woman has been arrested after the suspicious death of NFL reporter Adan Manzano, leaving his young daughter orphaned. The investigation is ongoing, and charges include fraud and theft.
A woman has been arrested concerning the suspicious death of an NFL reporter, leaving his two-year-old daughter orphaned.
A Louisiana woman with a history of drugging men and stealing their credit cards was taken into custody following the death of Adan Manzano, a Kansas City Telemundo reporter who was in New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
According to Kenner police chief Keith Conley, hotel security footage captured Slidell resident Danette Colbert entering the reporter's room with him at approximately 4.35am on Wednesday.
Detectives found that the credit card used by Manzano to check into the Comfort Suites was neither on his person nor in the hotel room, Conley reported.
Colbert subsequently used Manzano's credit card at various stores in the New Orleans area, as stated by the Kenner police department.
Colbert is facing charges related to property crimes, including fraud and theft, with the investigation ongoing.
As for Manzano's cause of death, police officials have not provided any information. "As for whether this was a homicide, I can't predict the outcome. We will allow the evidence to determine that," Conley stated. "Once the coroner finalises their findings, the case could be classified as homicide or another type of death, which may result in upgraded charges."
In addition, Colbert has a criminal history that features allegations of drugging men and financial crimes, according to Kenner police. They have requested anyone recognising Colbert or having information regarding her involvement to contact investigators.
In 2022, police in Nevada charged Colbert with introducing a foreign substance into a victim, and another incident occurred in Jefferson Parish two years prior, according to Conley.
Colbert has been booked on accusations ranging from simple robbery and access device fraud to bank and computer fraud.
As of Saturday (AEDT), it was unclear if she had engaged an attorney for her defence.
Manzano's death follows closely behind the tragic passing of his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, who was killed in a car crash in Topeka. Boyd, aged 24, was a primary school teacher within the Topeka Public Schools.
The couple leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, now under the care of relatives, who are seeking support in the aftermath of this tragedy.
The family described Adan Manzano as "a kind, loving, and hardworking person" who positively impacted many lives with his kindness. They have initiated a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs, stating, "As we navigate this painful time, we seek your support to ensure Adan receives the farewell he deserves."
