Traditional Diets in Rural Papua New Guinea Prove Extremely Healthy
A recent study highlights the health benefits of traditional diets in rural Papua New Guinea, showcasing significant reductions in bad cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
A food study released last month indicates that traditional diets in rural Papua New Guinea are remarkably healthy.
One of the researchers, Jens Walter, a Professor at the School of Microbiology at University College Cork in Ireland, suggests that we should all consider adopting the eating habits of people in rural Papua New Guinea.
A clinical trial performed as part of the study tested a traditional Papua New Guinean diet, primarily consisting of legumes and free from dairy and wheat, on food subjects. The results showed a significant reduction in bad cholesterol levels and lowered blood sugar.
"The microbiological and immunological benefits really blew us away," said Professor Walter.
He further explained, "We completely controlled the diet of the participants and in just three weeks, they lost 17% of their bad cholesterol and their blood sugar went down 6%."
"We didn't expect the magnitude of these effects...within just three weeks."
