Tourism operators and stakeholders in Mackay and the Whitsundays have participated in the development of a new 20-year tourism plan aimed at shaping the future of the industry. Destination 2045: Queensland's Tourism Future has been discussed during regional consultation sessions throughout the State. An online survey, regional roadshows, and industry consultations are set to build a collective vision for a thriving visitor economy.
The Crisafulli Government has engaged with numerous tourism operators and community stakeholders in Mackay and the Whitsundays to help define the future of Queensland's tourism.
This visionary 20-year plan by the Crisafulli Government seeks to enhance Queensland's appeal and accelerate growth and opportunities within the sector.
With tourism supporting one in every 12 jobs across the State, the government is dedicated to strengthening the industry and establishing Queensland as the premier destination for visitors.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Andrew Powell, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the industry and the community to create a shared vision. He stated, "We are on the threshold of an unprecedented opportunity, with the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games spotlighting Queensland to the world."
He added, "This is our moment to capitalise, to innovate, and to lay down the tracks for a legacy that will benefit not just today's Queenslanders but generations to follow."
The insights and participation of Queenslanders on the discussion paper's key themes, including ecotourism, investment attraction, tourism experience development, events, access and connectivity, and leveraging the 2032 legacy, are seen as invaluable.
Local MP for Mackay, Nigel Dalton, noted the region's vital role in the State's tourism economy. "We know people use our area as a jumping off point to see the Great Barrier Reef. But Mackay has so much more to offer," Mr Dalton stated. "These consultation sessions are a great opportunity for our voices to be heard."
