A 47-year-old man was arrested in Newcastle for firearm and drug offences after police observed him acting suspiciously. He is set to appear in court today.
A man will face court today charged with firearm, drug, and stealing offences following an incident in Newcastle yesterday.
About 3pm on Wednesday 5 February 2025, plain-clothes police were patrolling Beaumont Street, Hamilton, when they allegedly observed a man on a bicycle stop and rummage through the letterbox of a home.
The officers, attached to the Hunter DV High-Risk Offender Team, attempted to stop the man, who subsequently rode away from the scene on his bicycle.
The man stopped a short time later on Lawson Street, where he was arrested by police.
A subsequent search of the man's bag allegedly revealed an imitation firearm, cannabis, and several bank cards believed to have been stolen.
The 47-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with larceny, possession of an unauthorised pistol, possession of a prohibited drug, and goods in personal custody suspected to be stolen.
He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, Thursday 6 February 2025.
