Delhi Assembly elections commence with over 15 million voters
The Delhi Assembly polls kick off with over 15 million voters participating. The elections are pivotal for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party amid corruption allegations and a bid to secure political stability.
Over 1.56 crore voters are set to seal the fate of the Delhi Assembly polls as all 70 Assembly constituencies will vote in a single phase on Wednesday from 7 a.m. onwards with 13,766 polling stations set up at 2,696 polling locations.
In the first election of 2025, over 15.5 million voters will cast ballots throughout Delhi beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. This is the result of a fierce assembly struggle for the Capital that will have significant political ramifications across the country.
All 70 seats in the nation's capital are expected to cast ballots today, setting the stage for the Delhi Assembly Elections. In order to determine Delhi's political destiny, more than 1.55 crore registered voters will cast ballots starting at 7:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm. On February 8, the election results will be made public.
For the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won sizable victories in 2015 and 2020 but has spent the majority of the last five years fighting corruption accusations that have sent almost all of its front-line leadership to prison, the elections are essentially a referendum. The AAP, which was born out of the crucible of the Capital's anti-corruption movement, has attempted to draw attention to its core welfare tenet by presenting a plethora of 16 sops, from free medical care for all older residents to cash handouts to impoverished women. By dismissing about a third of its incumbent members and pressing the opposition to find a replacement with its spokesperson, former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, it has attempted to stifle anti-incumbency sentiment.
