Family mourns sudden death of young Sydney woman
The family of a young and healthy 24-year-old woman from Sydney, Christine Visnjic, have described their "catastrophic" loss following her sudden death. After experiencing nagging leg pain post-holiday in Japan, her symptoms worsened during a drive to the hospital, leading to a seizure on the roadside.
Just 72 hours later, Christine passed away, with the precise cause of her death still unknown. Her brother Jason expressed the family's shock in a GoFundMe page created to assist with headstone costs, stating, "Christine was a young, beautiful, healthy girl, full of energy and love for others, whose life was tragically cut short."
Scans indicated Christine suffered a bilateral stroke, caused by a blood clot in her leg that migrated to her lung, heart, and brain, disrupting blood flow.
"She was 24 years young with no warning, and despite the best medical help, her life could not be saved," Jason noted. He added that her heart lasted for 20 minutes after life support was withdrawn, indicating her resilience.
Her family announced her "shock" death on Facebook, expressing "sorrow" while many members of the community paid tribute to Christine, calling her "hardworking" and "kind."
In the hours before her death, Christine had been feeling "discomfort" in her leg, prompting her family to take her to the hospital. Jason recounted how, moments before her seizure, she appeared healthy while celebrating his birthday the night before.
The family suspects deep vein thrombosis (DVT) may have contributed to her condition during her travels, but they opted against an autopsy as she "passed beautifully."
